Tamaulipas tourism boom creates 6,753 jobs; Mérida culinary showcase fuels local entrepreneurs

In the first quarter, tourism in Tamaulipas generated 6,753 new jobs, moving the state to 11th place nationally for employment growth in the sector. State tourism secretary Benjamin Hernández Rodríguez said the rise “does not only generate direct employment, but also drives productive chains such as transport, commerce and services.” The growth is attributed to new infrastructure, promotion strategies and increased visitor arrivals, and officials expect the trend to continue through the year.

In Libertador municipality, Venezuela, the mayor Nelson Álvarez promoted the “Mérida Gastronómica” exhibition at the Hotel Venetur, showcasing the city’s culinary heritage. The event coincided with a second round of financing that awarded USD 12,000 to ten local entrepreneurs, with 80% of funds earmarked for the gastronomy sector. Álvarez highlighted the destination brand “Mérida te enamora” as a means to position the city as a global gastronomic capital and to support sustainable tourism and family livelihoods.
