Tamaulipas vehicle thefts drop to lowest level since 2015

In May 2026 the Mexican state of Tamaulipas recorded 125 reports of vehicle theft, the fewest since October 2022 and the lowest monthly total since 2015. The figure represents a 77.8% decline from the 564 reports filed in May 2015. State security officials, including Secretary Willy Zúñiga Castillo and Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, said the reduction reflects coordinated actions by the Mesa de Paz, emphasizing prevention, increased surveillance, intelligence work and intensified anti‑crime operations.

The authorities pledged to maintain and strengthen these measures to protect residents' property and sustain the downward trend in vehicle‑theft incidents.
