Tambaram Corporation Commissioner transferred amid tender irregularity allegations

Tambaram Corporation Commissioner S Balachander has been placed on compulsory wait following allegations of tender irregularities. The move follows a complaint by the anti-corruption NGO Arappor Iyakkam, which alleged that two civic projects worth approximately Rs 45.9 lakh were completed and inaugurated before the official tender bidding processes were even opened.

The specific projects cited include a Rs 27.3 lakh beautification project at the Perungalathur Bridge roundabout and a Rs 18.6 lakh landscaping project at the Chitlapakkam roundabout. In both instances, the NGO claimed the works were inaugurated weeks before the scheduled bid opening dates. Arappor Iyakkam further alleged possible collusion between officials and contractors and requested a formal inquiry.

R. Saranya, the Avadi Corporation Commissioner, has been assigned additional charge of the Tambaram Corporation. The transfer order was also marked to the Vigilance Commissioner.
