Tambaram Corporation councillors criticize civic governance failures
During a Tambaram Corporation council meeting chaired by Mayor Vasanthakumari, councillors from both the DMK and AIADMK parties united to criticize the civic administration for various failures.
Key grievances raised by the councillors included an ineffective stray dog control program despite allocated funds for sterilization and vaccination, and irregular drinking water supplies despite residents paying water taxes. Concerns were also voiced regarding the state of stormwater drains, which are reportedly damaged or encroached upon, posing a risk of waterlogging during the monsoon season.
Additionally, councillors highlighted deficiencies in healthcare services at the Ward 51 government primary health centre, citing a lack of medicines, absent doctors, and inadequate diagnostic facilities. The opposition also questioned the delay in implementing an underground sewerage project, noting that a previously announced allocation of Rs 750 crore for expansion has yet to result in commenced works. AIADMK councillors reportedly walked out of the meeting following allegations that no funds were allotted for civic works in their respective wards.
