Tamer Hosny's Father Hosni Sherif Dies, Concerts Postponed

Veteran Egyptian singer Hosni Sherif, the 82‑year‑old father of pop star Tamer Hosny, died on 31 July 2026 after a prolonged illness. Tamer announced the loss on his social‑media accounts, quoting the Qur'anic phrase “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un” and asking fans to pray for his father.

The death prompted an outpouring of condolences from artists such as Mona Fadaly, Ayman Bahgat Qamar and Basma Boussil, who posted tributes on Instagram and Facebook. The Musicians’ Syndicate, led by Mustafa Kamel, also issued a statement of sympathy.

TH Production, the organizer of Hosny’s upcoming shows, cancelled the North Coast concert and postponed the opening of the “Yalla Sahel” festival in New Alamein City, as well as the Jerash Festival in Jordan, pending new dates. The funeral was held after the Asr prayer at Al‑Dajawi Mosque in the Sixth of October district.

Hosni Sherif’s career spanned the 1970s‑80s, with hits such as “Min Zayyak Min” and appearances in several Egyptian films. His death marks the end of a notable era in Egyptian popular music.
