Tameside groups urged to apply for £500 hate crime grants

Tameside Council is inviting community groups to apply for grants of up to £500 to fund projects aimed at tackling hate crime. The funding is intended to support activities during Greater Manchester Hate Crime Awareness Week, scheduled for February 1 to 7, 2027.

Funded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), the grants are designed to encourage incident reporting, provide victim support, and foster community cohesion. Priority areas for applicants include improving hate crime education, early intervention, and increasing public awareness of the consequences of hate crimes. Councillor Stephen Homer stated that the funding provides an opportunity for organisations to create meaningful activities that help build understanding between different communities.
