Tamil film ‘Dorothy’ receives standing ovation at TIFF premiere

The Tamil film ‘Dorothy’, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, received a standing ovation during its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026. The film, which stars Keerthy Suresh, Sananth, and Rishikanth, is the first Tamil feature to premiere at TIFF in the last decade.

Set in the early 1990s in rural Tamil Nadu, the story follows two boys, Karthi and Subbu, and their connection to a household member named Dorothy. The narrative explores themes of friendship, prejudice, and human connection amidst patriarchal hierarchies and violence. The film features a soundtrack composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
