Tamil film ‘Selvi’ premieres to sold-out crowd at Busan International Film Festival

The Tamil film ‘Selvi’ achieved a significant milestone with its world premiere at the 31st Busan International Film Festival on October 9, 2026. The film, which was played to a full house, is one of only two Indian films selected for the festival’s prestigious Vision Asia section.

Produced by National Award-winning actor Anjali Patil, who also stars in the lead role, the film marks the directorial debut of Sailesh Rathnakumar. The narrative follows Selvi, a migrant home-care nurse working long shifts for wealthy families, as an incident from her past shifts the story from themes of migration and caregiving toward survival and difficult personal choices.

Following the successful opening show, subsequent screenings at the festival have also reportedly sold out. Anjali Patil expressed gratitude for the reception, noting that the film’s resonance with Korean audiences indicates its potential to connect with a wider global scale.
