Tamil Nadu advances semiconductor and sports development initiatives

Tamil Nadu is advancing strategic initiatives in both the technology and sports sectors. In the semiconductor industry, a ₹100 crore center is being established at the IIT Madras Research Park as part of the ‘Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Mission 2030’. In collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), the center aims to integrate skill development, micro-manufacturing, prototyping, and advanced research. The facility plans to train approximately 5,000 individuals, ranging from diploma holders to senior scientists, across various stages of the semiconductor supply chain, including assembly, packaging, and testing.

In the sports sector, the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) has launched a high-performance training camp for athletics and judo coaches at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium. This initiative, part of an agreement with the JSW Sports Institute, aims to prepare athletes for Olympic and international competitions over the next five years. Officials announced plans to develop Chennai into a ‘Tamil Nadu Olympic City’ and are working to establish sports facilities in all 38 districts. Additionally, ₹44.39 crore has been allocated for athlete nutrition, supporting the 2,600 athletes currently residing in SDAT sports hostels.
