Tamil Nadu Assembly begins department-wise budget debates
The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is set to reconvene on Monday following a four-day adjournment for Independence Day celebrations. The session will transition into a new phase of the budget process, focusing on department-wise discussions regarding demands for grants for the 2026-27 financial year.
The initial debates are expected to cover three primary departments: Health and Family Welfare, Revenue and Disaster Management, and Natural Calamities Mitigation. Legislators from both the ruling TDP and the opposition are anticipated to address topics such as healthcare infrastructure, medical education, public welfare, and the state’s readiness for natural disasters.
Health Minister Dr. K. K. Arunraj and Revenue Minister K. A. Sengottaiyan are scheduled to respond to queries and may announce new departmental schemes and initiatives. This follows the recent presentation of the general and agriculture budgets by the newly elected TDP government earlier in August.
