Tamil Nadu protests continue despite Assembly resolution against NEET

Protests against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) continue across Chennai despite the Tamil Nadu Assembly passing a resolution against the medical entrance examination. Demonstrators argue that the interests of underprivileged and marginalized students cannot be protected without a total ban on the exam.

In Tiruvottiyur, former IRS officer Balamurugan has entered his 20th day of an indefinite hunger strike. His demands include an exemption for Tamil Nadu from NEET, as well as the resignations of the Chief Justice of India and the Union Home Minister. Meanwhile, in Egmore, the 'OG Tamizha' collective has maintained a daily sit-in protest for 24 days, involving students, academics, and activists.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the Assembly's resolution, stating that NEET is conducted under Supreme Court orders and has benefited rural and poor students. BJP leaders argued that any modification to the examination process must be addressed through the Supreme Court rather than state resolutions.
