Tamil Nadu Assembly sees heated clashes over resignations and airport project

The Tamil Nadu Assembly experienced intense confrontations on Tuesday involving the ruling TVK, the opposition DMK, and the AIADMK. The heated sessions were driven by two primary issues: the resignation of six AIADMK MLAs and debates regarding the Parandur airport project.

During discussions on the resignation of six legislators, AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami questioned how the interests and grievances of citizens in the now-vacant constituencies would be addressed. While the government has appointed ministers to oversee these districts, Palaniswami expressed concerns regarding the effectiveness of such oversight. The debate escalated when Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan raised allegations of ‘horse-trading’ regarding a former TVK candidate, a claim the AIADMK denied, stating the candidate's nomination was rejected rather than withdrawn.

Separate clashes occurred during a debate on the Parandur airport project, where members from the TVK and DMK exchanged personal insults and allegations of financial impropriety. Speaker JCD Prabhakar intervened multiple times, warning members that he would be forced to evict those who continued to violate parliamentary conduct and use inappropriate language.
