Tamil Nadu Assembly to debate food and cooperative department grants

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is scheduled to discuss grant demands for the Food and Consumer Protection and Cooperative departments. The debate is expected to cover the public distribution system, availability of essential goods, consumer grievance redressal, and price control measures.

In the Cooperative sector, discussions will likely focus on cooperative banks, credit societies, crop loans, and financial assistance for farmers and vulnerable groups. Ministers Venkataramanan and Gandhiraj are expected to address legislative inquiries and announce new initiatives.

The current administration under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has recently proposed several welfare expansions, including increasing annual health insurance coverage from 5 lakh to 25 lakh rupees for eligible families and extending the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme to students in grades 6 through 8. Additionally, the government has announced debt relief measures, including the full waiver of eligible cooperative loans up to 75,000 rupees.
