Tamil Nadu bus displays and Singapore property allegations spark debate
In Tamil Nadu, passengers are reporting confusion regarding the new ‘Verri Payanam’ bus scheme. Under the initiative launched by Chief Minister Vijay, LED displays on suburban buses are displaying the scheme name statically, while destination and route information scrolls by. Passengers in districts like Pudukkottai have noted that the scrolling text moves too quickly for them to identify their stops before the bus departs.
In Singapore, a parliamentary debate is scheduled to address allegations that government employees and their families purchased significant property near planned, but unannounced, MRT stations. Following a report by the National Bureau of Economic Research, nine Members of Parliament have raised questions regarding whether officials used non-public information for personal financial gain. The Public Service Division is currently reviewing property acquisitions made between 2007 and 2011 to assess potential misconduct.
