Sangeetha Sornalingam withdraws divorce petition against CM Vijay

Sangeetha Sornalingam has withdrawn her divorce and residency rights petitions filed against her husband, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay. The decision was made during a hearing at the Chengalpattu District Family Court on Friday, August 7, where Sangeetha appeared via video conferencing to inform Judge Sujatha of her decision.

The legal proceedings, which had been ongoing since early 2026, included allegations of irreconcilable differences and infidelity. The petition had also sought alimony and the right to reside in the couple's home in Neelankarai, Chennai. Following the withdrawal, the court officially disposed of the case, though it noted that Sangeetha maintains the liberty to file a fresh petition in the future if necessary.

Neither Vijay nor Sangeetha has issued a public statement regarding the specific reasons for the withdrawal or the current status of their marriage. The couple has been married since 1999 and has two children.
