Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay Inspects Driverless Chennai Metro
Chief Minister Joseph Vijay of Tamil Nadu boarded a driverless metro train on the Porur‑Poonamallee stretch in Chennai as part of an inspection of the Phase II metro rail project. The trial ride was meant to assess the newly completed 14.64‑km elevated corridor between Poonamallee Outer Ring Road and Vadapalani, which has its core infrastructure ready for operation.
During the visit the chief minister purchased a ticket at the counter, drew large crowds of commuters and fans, and interacted briefly with passengers on board. The inspection follows an earlier detailed review by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety in February, which examined track quality, station facilities and safety systems before granting conditional approval for the corridor’s opening.
