Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's film Jana Nayagan cleared by CBFC

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted an ‘A’ (adult) certificate to Jana Nayagan, the final film of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, after a seven‑month certification battle. The board ordered twelve specific modifications, including muting references to Vijay’s political party “TVK”, removing the phrase “New India”, deleting a scene of the Indian flag falling, and censoring several dialogues and visual elements.

The film, directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, was originally slated for a Pongal release on 9 January 2026. Legal challenges and a high‑definition piracy leak that attracted roughly 1.2 crore views delayed the launch. Following the board’s clearance, industry sources expect the movie to open in about 1,000 theatres across Tamil Nadu on 24 July 2026.

The certification process also saw the producers approach the Madras High Court and later the Supreme Court before withdrawing their petitions and submitting the film to the revising committee. Arrests were made in connection with the piracy leak. The cast includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
