Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s Nellai roots revealed amid entitlement‑fund dispute

Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, film star Vijay, is reported to have ancestral ties to the Nellai district. According to statements from S. A. Jai Raja, Vijay’s paternal grandmother, Lily Sena‑Dhipathi, was born and raised in Vadakkan Kulam, a village on the Nellai–Kanyakumari road. The revelation links the chief minister’s family directly to the region.

At the same time, the state’s women’s entitlement fund – a welfare scheme promised during the previous DMK administration – has faced criticism for delayed disbursement. After the fund finally reached eligible bank accounts, opposition DMK leaders accused the Vijay government of releasing the money only to defuse political pressure. Several media outlets portrayed the release as a concession to the DMK’s protest, while supporters of the chief minister argued that the administration is simply fulfilling its commitment.

Both developments have heightened political debate in Tamil Nadu, intertwining personal heritage with policy implementation and partisan criticism.
