Tamil Nadu increases milk procurement price to ₹44 per litre
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced a further increase in the milk procurement price, raising it from ₹41 to ₹44 per litre. This follows a previous hike from ₹38 to ₹41 earlier in August, resulting in a cumulative increase of ₹6 per litre. The decision, made under Rule 110 of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, aims to support over 3.16 lakh dairy farmers facing rising costs for cattle feed, veterinary care, and labor.
The government intends to absorb the additional expenditure rather than passing the costs to consumers immediately. In addition to the dairy sector support, the Chief Minister announced several infrastructure and development projects, including the establishment of a semiconductor park in Maduramangalam, Kanchipuram district, and the creation of new electricity corridors in Chennai valued at approximately ₹1,762 crore and ₹1,550 crore.
Further announcements included investments in healthcare and medical education, with ₹351 crore allocated to increase student admission capacity in government medical colleges, creating over 6,000 additional seats for various medical and nursing courses.
