Tamil Nadu CM to meet Andhra Pradesh CM over Krishna water dispute

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is expected to meet Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada on October 13 to address the Krishna River water dispute. The discussions will focus on water supply shortages under the Telugu Ganga Project, proposed dam constructions on rivers flowing through Tamil Nadu, and river interlinking initiatives.

Under existing agreements, Andhra Pradesh is required to provide 12 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of Krishna River water annually at the interstate border. However, data indicates that Tamil Nadu has received only 2.251 TMC as of October 9, leaving a significant deficit.

In addition to water allocation, the meeting is expected to cover concerns regarding the impact of new dam projects on downstream water availability and broader river interlinking proposals. During his visit, Vijay is also slated to meet with Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and other state ministers.
