Tamil Nadu CM Vijay engages in diplomatic talks and addresses fishing disputes
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is engaging in both diplomatic strengthening and crisis management regarding regional relations. In Chennai, Singapore High Commissioner Simon Wong met with the Chief Minister to discuss expanding cooperation in technology, manufacturing, skills development, and investment. Wong noted that Singapore is the largest foreign investor in Tamil Nadu and emphasized the deep historical and economic ties between the two regions.
Simultaneously, Chief Minister Vijay has written to Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar requesting intervention regarding the arrest of 20 fishermen and the seizure of 270 boats by the Sri Lankan Navy. The Chief Minister urged the central government to secure the release of those in custody and to revitalize the India-Sri Lanka Joint Working Group on Fisheries. This follows an indefinite strike by the Rameswaram All-Mechanised Boat Fishermen Association, which is protesting the arrests and seeking a permanent solution to long-standing disputes in the Palk Strait.
