Vijay meets Naidu to discuss Chennai water supply and river projects

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada to address critical interstate water-sharing issues. A primary focus of the discussions was the shortfall in drinking water supplies to Chennai under the Telugu Ganga project. While the agreement stipulates an annual supply of 12 TMC of Krishna river water, Tamil Nadu has reportedly received only 2.251 TMC as of early October.

Chief Minister Naidu noted that while Andhra Pradesh remains committed to meeting Chennai's needs, reduced water inflows due to El Niño have caused significant scarcity. He stated that 4.08 TMC has already been released and that additional releases would be considered based on availability. The leaders also discussed the feasibility and progress of the Godavari-Krishna-Cauvery river-linking project, which Naidu described as a potential long-term solution to drought.

Additionally, the meeting touched upon concerns raised by the Tamil Nadu government regarding Andhra Pradesh's plans to construct dams on rivers flowing toward the Tamil Nadu border. During his visit, Chief Minister Vijay also participated in the Vijayawada Utsav and visited the Kanaka Durga Temple.
