Tamil Nadu CM Vijay's film Jana Nayagan receives A rating from Censor Board

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay’s film "Jana Nayagan" has been granted an "A" certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after the producers complied with twelve mandated cuts. The modifications included removal of references to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and the TVK political party, among other short segments.

The certification ends a prolonged legal dispute over the film’s release, which had been delayed since a January 9 Pongal schedule was halted by the board. While an official release date has not yet been announced, the makers indicated the movie will reach theatres soon, possibly before the upcoming state assembly elections.

Promotional activities have sparked controversy: a full‑page newspaper advertisement in Tamil Nadu highlighted Vijay’s status as "Honourable Chief Minister" and has been criticised for violating the Tamil Film Producers Council’s advertising guidelines, which prohibit such references. Critics question whether the producers will face penalties for the breach.
