Tamil Nadu CM Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan delayed, producers to refund distributors

The Tamil-language film *Jana Nayagan*, starring actor‑turned‑Chief Minister Vijay, has remained unreleased since its scheduled January 9, 2026 debut. The delay stems from a dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification and subsequent legal proceedings in the Madras High Court, which halted the certification process.

KVN Productions, the film’s producer, announced it will refund distributor advances—estimated at around ₹200 crore—while it prepares to take over the release independently after all certification and legal hurdles are cleared. The decision follows financial pressure on the studio, which has about ₹1,000 crore tied up in other delayed projects. Distributors worldwide have suffered losses due to the postponement, and theater owners missed potential earnings during the Pongal season.

The film was promoted as Vijay’s final screen appearance before his full transition to politics as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, keeping public interest high despite the ongoing uncertainty about its new release date.
