Tamil Nadu dairy brands hike milk and curd prices
Private dairy companies in Tamil Nadu are increasing prices for milk and curd due to rising procurement costs. Following a price revision by Arokya, which raised the cost of one litre of milk by ₹4 to ₹86 and curd by ₹2, other major brands such as Dodla, Heritage, and Tirumala are expected to follow suit.
The price hikes affect various milk types, including toned, standardised, and full-cream variants. This trend is widening the price gap between private brands and the state-run cooperative, Aavin. While the government has increased Aavin’s milk procurement price to ₹44 per litre to support producers, Aavin’s retail prices have remained unchanged.
The Tamil Nadu Milk Dealers Employees Welfare Association has expressed concern that Aavin is incurring significant daily losses because its retail prices do not reflect increased procurement costs. The association has urged the government to review Aavin’s pricing to prevent a financial crisis for the cooperative.
