Tamil Nadu DMK files FIR over alleged illegal MLA resignations and launches student cabinet in schools

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu has asked the state's anti‑corruption bureau to register a First Information Report (FIR) alleging illegal resignations of several MLAs and related corruption. The complaint cites senior party figures, including M.R. Vijay Basu, and accuses officials of abusing power to facilitate the resignations, urging a thorough investigation.

In a separate initiative, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department introduced a "student cabinet" in government schools, modeled on a parliamentary system. From each of the five traditional school houses—Kurinji, Mullai, Neythal, Marutham and Paalai—students are elected as ministers for portfolios such as education, environment, health, information and communication, and climate change. The scheme aims to foster leadership, democratic participation and gender equality among students, with regular rotations and performance assessments.
