Tamil Nadu downgrades MK Stalin's security from Z+ to Z category

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government in Tamil Nadu has downgraded the security cover for former Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin from 'Z+' to 'Z' category. The decision follows a bi-annual security assessment conducted by the Tamil Nadu Police's Core Cell Security Wing.

The revision reduces Stalin's total security strength from 54 to 34 personnel, decreasing the number of static guards and round-the-clock commandos at his Alwarpet residence. Under the new Z-category arrangement, his protection will consist of a coordinated convoy system including pilot, escort, core, and rear vehicles.

While officials state the change is based on standard threat reassessments, the move has drawn criticism from opposition leaders who characterize it as a political vendetta. Supporters of the current administration maintain that security levels must be strictly tied to threat perception.
