Tamil Nadu Education Minister A Rajmohan meets teachers' unions

Tamil Nadu’s School Education Minister A Rajmohan held a two‑day consultative meeting with representatives of teacher and non‑teaching staff associations at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai. Delegates presented a range of long‑pending and new demands, including the introduction of computer‑science classes from grades 1‑12, regularisation of teachers hired under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, extension of the noon‑meal programme to class 12, exemption of exam fees, supplementary fees for state‑run schools, transport facilities for all students, and salary hikes for library staff.

Among the proposals was a request to serve chicken biryani once a week under the midday‑meal scheme. Minister Rajmohan said the suggestion has been placed before the chief minister and is under consideration, noting that any decision would involve the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department, which implements the programme. The meetings also sought to extend the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme to higher grades and to ease requirements for the Teacher Eligibility Test following a Supreme Court ruling.
