Tamil Nadu establishes state-level cybercrime coordination centre in Chennai
The Tamil Nadu government has established the Tamil Nadu State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (TN-S4C) in Chennai to combat increasingly sophisticated digital crimes. The facility, located at the Police Training College complex in Ashok Nagar, converts the existing Cyber Crime Wing headquarters into a 24/7 operational hub.
Acting as the state's nodal agency for the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the TN-S4C will coordinate with banks, telecom operators, internet service providers, and CERT-In. The centre is designed to handle organized cybercrime, ransomware, cryptocurrency-related offences, and large-scale financial fraud, including cases requiring international coordination.
The structure comprises six specialized verticals: the State Cyber Command Centre, State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre, Cyber Arangam, Advanced Cyber Forensic Unit, Administration Division, and Cyber Security Division. Key responsibilities include managing the 1930 cybercrime helpline, monitoring e-Zero FIRs, conducting dark web surveillance, and facilitating the blocking of fraudulent SIM cards and IMEI numbers.
The government has approved 172 police positions to support the command and investigation units, alongside additional personnel for administrative and specialized roles.
