Senthil Balaji Tamil Nadu bail surrender cash‑for‑vote scandal Triplicane police

Former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji appeared before the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai on 24 July 2026 to formalise an anticipatory bail order in a cash‑for‑vote case. The Madras High Court had directed him and his brother R V Ashok Kumar to surrender within 15 days, execute a personal bond of Rs 25,000 each and report twice daily to the Triplicane police. The court accepted the bail bond and imposed the reporting requirement.

The investigation stems from a complaint by MLA N Elaiyaraja that a bribe of Rs 35 crore was offered to defeat the Speaker’s motion, allegedly facilitated by Senthil Balaji and his brother. Charges were filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
