Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Vijay Joseph has announced an expansion of the state’s crop-loan waiver scheme, increasing the total financial assistance to ₹6,220 crore. The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 13.34 lakh farmers.
Under the updated structure, farmers with cooperative bank crop loans up to ₹75,000 will receive a 100% waiver. For loans between ₹75,000 and ₹1 lakh, the waiver is capped at ₹75,000, providing additional relief to over 2.38 lakh farmers. For loans exceeding ₹1 lakh, a flat waiver of ₹35,000 will be applied. This expansion adds ₹953.06 crore to the previous package.
Addressing the State Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister emphasized that protecting farmer livelihoods and reducing debt burdens are core priorities for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) administration. As of July 31, ₹5,267 crore had already been credited directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries.
