Anbumani Ramadoss urges Tamil Nadu to expedite farm power connections
PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss has urged the Tamil Nadu government to expedite thousands of pending agricultural electricity connections. He alleged that delays by the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) have caused significant financial distress for farmers.
Ramadoss specifically highlighted 60,120 farmers who applied under the ‘tatkal agricultural power connection scheme’ and paid substantial deposits. He claimed that approximately 1,500 crore rupees have been collected from these applicants, yet many have not received connections even eight months after payment. This delay has reportedly hindered cultivation during the Kuruvai season, leaving farmers burdened with debt from high-interest loans taken to cover the deposits.
With 45 percent of Tamil Nadu’s agricultural land relying on groundwater, Ramadoss emphasized that uninterrupted power for irrigation pump sets is essential for sustaining cultivation.
