Tamil Nadu free veshti and saree scheme faces production delays

TTV Dhinakaran, General Secretary of the AMMK, has criticized the DMK government regarding delays in granting production permissions for the free veshti and saree scheme intended for ration card holders during the Pongal festival.

Dhinakaran noted that while permissions are typically granted in July to support local weavers, no such authorization has been issued as of late August. He expressed concern that this delay jeopardizes the livelihoods of approximately 300,000 weavers who depend on this seasonal production.

The critic further questioned whether the government intends to outsource the scheme to companies from other states, similar to previous initiatives, and urged the administration to immediately grant permissions to ensure the benefits reach citizens before the festival.
