Tamil Nadu government drops cases against NIT protest participants
The Tamil Nadu government announced the cancellation of all legal cases filed against students and youth who took part in protests against the National Institute of Technology (NIT) entrance exam at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. School Education Minister Raj Mohanan said the orders came from the chief minister and that the withdrawn cases cover arrests made during the demonstrations, which spread to several Indian states.
Separate reports claim that a group of 23 individuals arrived from Dubai, allegedly carrying food, equipment and weapons, and were planning to turn the peaceful protest into a violent attempt on the Parliament. According to those accounts, the conspirators fled Delhi after the plan was thwarted.
Both the government’s case‑cancellation and the alleged foreign involvement relate to the same series of student protests across India.
