Tamil Nadu government faces rice price hikes and sand mining probe
In Tamil Nadu, political tensions are rising as the En MK government faces scrutiny over essential commodity prices and corruption allegations. D.T.V. Dhinakaran, General Secretary of the En MK party, has urged Chief Minister Vijay to take immediate action to control the rising cost of rice, which has reportedly increased by over 60 percent. Dhinakaran noted that the price surge, alongside rising costs for sugar, pulses, and vegetables, is placing a heavy economic burden on the poor.
Simultaneously, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has launched an intensive investigation into a massive sand mining scam valued at approximately Rs 4,730 crore. Following evidence provided by the Enforcement Directorate, authorities are investigating illegal sand extraction that occurred during the previous administration. The investigation involves collecting documents and evidence of illegal activities across rivers in the state, with officials preparing to issue summons to contractors, government officials, and other key individuals involved in the irregularities.
