Tamil Nadu government to launch online alcohol reservation system amid criticism

The Tamil Nadu government plans to introduce an online reservation system for TASMAC liquor varieties starting 6 August 2026. A dedicated website (tasmace2e.in) will let customers view the stock and prices of all 4,048 TASMAC outlets, pre‑pay, receive a QR‑coded receipt and a map to the selected shop, aiming to reduce queue times.

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has condemned the scheme, calling it dangerous and likely to boost liquor trade and consumption. He urged the state to abandon the plan and focus reforms on sectors such as education, health, agriculture, food supply and electricity instead of facilitating alcohol sales.

The proposal has sparked debate over its potential impact on public health and the liquor market, with officials defending it as a measure to streamline retail operations and curb illegal sales.
