Tamil Nadu introduces safety color coding for schools and colleges

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a new color-coding system to monitor the structural safety of government-run schools and colleges. Minister Aadhav Arjuna stated that buildings will be categorized using red, yellow, and green stickers. Red stickers will identify high-risk structures requiring immediate closure for repairs, yellow for those needing urgent maintenance, and green for buildings deemed safe for the next five years. Survey data will be shared with local MLAs to ensure oversight, with a specific budget allocated for these maintenance efforts.

In the state Assembly, political tensions rose between the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the opposition DMK. The parties engaged in heated exchanges regarding coalition leverage and political identity, with both sides attributing their electoral strength to the support of the Congress party. Meanwhile, TVK Minister J Mohammed Parvez urged party cadres to prepare for upcoming local body elections, aiming for a complete sweep following the party’s recent Assembly election success.
