Tamil Nadu Left parties support nationwide three-day bank strike
Left parties in Tamil Nadu, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India, have announced their support for a nationwide three-day bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30.
Party leaders are urging the central government to resume negotiations with bank employees and officers regarding several long-standing demands. Key issues include the implementation of a five-day working week, filling vacant positions, regularizing temporary workers, ending outsourcing, and defining pension benefits.
CPM Tamil Nadu secretary P. Shanmugam noted that previous strike actions failed to trigger talks and warned that an indefinite strike could begin on October 26 if a settlement is not reached. Leaders have called on the Union government to intervene and engage in negotiations to avoid further industrial action.
