Tamil Nadu Assembly resumes budget session with question hour

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has resumed its budget session, beginning with the question hour. This marks the first time a question hour has been held since the TVK government came to power.

Following the presentation of the 2026-27 general budget and the agriculture budget in early August, the assembly has already completed discussions on the demands for grants for 27 departments. The session had previously been paused due to a public holiday for Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi.

During the current proceedings, discussions are expected to cover the management of public tourism assets, specifically regarding a proposal to hand over the Ooty Boat House to a private operator. Additionally, the assembly will deliberate on grant demands for the Social Justice Department and departments related to the welfare of backward classes, extremely backward classes, and minorities. Ministers Vanniyarsu and V. Sampathkumar are expected to respond to queries and potentially announce new policy measures and schemes.
