Tamil Nadu Minister K Vignesh Pushes Drug-Free Initiative in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu Prohibition and Excise Minister K Vignesh distributed certificates and medals to winners of a marathon organized by the Coimbatore District Police, which attracted around 10,000 participants. He said the event is part of a broader effort to make Coimbatore a model for a drug‑free Tamil Nadu, noting that police have seized thousands of packets of narcotics in recent operations.

Vignesh emphasized that enforcement alone will not curb drug abuse. He called for extensive awareness programmes targeting students, stressing the need for psychological education and healthier alternatives to drug use. The minister urged police officials in all Tamil Nadu districts to replicate Coimbatore’s initiatives and highlighted that Chief Minister Joseph Vijay supports the same approach.
