Tamil Nadu observes Avani full moon with religious rituals and receding seas

During the Avani month full moon, significant religious observances and natural phenomena were reported in Tamil Nadu. At Tiruchendur beach, the sea receded by approximately 100 feet, exposing algae-covered rocks and marine life such as small conches, shells, fish, and crabs. This natural occurrence, which often happens during full and new moon days along this coastline, attracted numerous tourists and devotees visiting the Tiruchendur Subramania Swamy Temple.

In Tiruchy, the Avani Avittam festival was observed with traditional rituals, including the changing of sacred threads. Devotees gathered at the Cauvery riverbank and other locations to perform prayers, chant the Gayatri mantra, and honor ancient sages through Rishi Tharpanam. The ceremony involves members of various communities replacing old sacred threads with new ones as part of long-standing religious traditions.
