Tamil Nadu officials mandate power infrastructure upgrades

Tamil Nadu officials are intensifying efforts to stabilize the state's power infrastructure ahead of the northeast monsoon and future demand surges. The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) has issued a directive to complete all pending maintenance works by September 30. These tasks include replacing aged conductors, rectifying damaged pillars, and replacing high-tension and low-tension poles to prevent electrical accidents and ensure uninterrupted supply.

In a separate move, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay conducted a visit to the state power utility's headquarters to address public complaints regarding voltage fluctuations and outages. The Chief Minister emphasized the integration of modern technologies, such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, for real-time monitoring. He also advocated for the expansion of renewable energy, specifically promoting rooftop solar installations through government subsidies and the implementation of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) policy to enhance self-reliance in the power sector.
