Tamil Nadu police arrest another suspect in Arcot daylight hacking case, victim remains critical

Police in Arcot, Tamil Nadu arrested Kathirvel, who is alleged to have assisted the prime accused Karthik in the daylight knife attack on a local businessman. The victim, 30‑year‑old Mani of Krishnapuram, was chased and hacked on Vellore Main Road, sustaining severe head injuries and remains in critical condition in intensive care at a private hospital after being transferred to Christian Medical College, Vellore.

The incident, rooted in a long‑standing dispute between Mani and Karthik, triggered fear among residents after CCTV footage of the assault spread widely. Authorities have registered a case against the accused under four sections of the law, placed Kathirvel in judicial custody and lodged him in Vellore Central Prison, while the prime suspect Karthik had already been apprehended earlier.
