Tamil Nadu police seize 290 kg of cannabis bound for Sri Lanka

Police in Uchipuli, Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu seized about 290 kg of cannabis hidden in a van that was headed for Sri Lanka. The operation, carried out by the Rameswaram Sub‑Divisional Crime Branch after a tip‑off, also led to the arrest of two men, P. Dinesh (24) and S. Kalanjeeswaran (22).

In a related raid, the state’s specialised "Q" Branch seized eight goats, three boxes of pigeons and an unregistered double‑engine fibre boat at Therespuram Anna Colony beach in Thoothukudi district, which police said were also intended for smuggling to Sri Lanka. The seized assets are valued at roughly ₹10 lakh. Investigations continue to identify any wider smuggling network and locate the suspects who fled the scene.
