Tamil Nadu political tensions rise over MISA Act debates

Political tensions have escalated in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly following heated exchanges regarding the MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act) and recent crime statistics. DMK leader M.K. Stalin released a video addressing recent assembly controversies, recounting his personal experiences of imprisonment and mistreatment under the MISA Act during the Emergency period. He specifically addressed comments made by Chief Minister Vijay regarding the law.

In response, DMK legislator E.V. Velu criticized the current administration's conduct, accusing the Chief Minister of performing for social media ‘reels’ rather than engaging in substantive governance. Velu also defended the party against claims regarding assembly protocols and criticized the Chief Minister for discussing matters currently under judicial consideration, which he argued violated legislative rules.
