Tamil Nadu politicians challenge DMK over investments and federal policy

Political tensions are rising in Tamil Nadu as opposition figures criticize the DMK government regarding investment transparency and federal relations.

Former Industries Minister TRB Rajaa has questioned the validity of 97 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed at a recent investment conclave. Rajaa alleged a lack of transparency, noting that the business press was excluded and an official list of MoUs has not been released. He claimed that approximately 70 MoUs—representing 75% of the investment value and 83% of the jobs—involved existing companies expanding operations or proposals initiated during the previous administration. He argued that these should not be presented as new achievements.

Separately, Energy Resources and Law Minister CTR Nirmal Kumar accused the DMK of failing to protect state interests, specifically regarding the proposed Delimitation Bill in Parliament. Kumar alleged that the DMK has not provided a categorical assurance to vote against the Bill and suggested the party is seeking support from the union government to protect its members from legal cases. He further claimed the DMK is moving toward a direct alliance with the BJP.
