India energy sector sees rising demand and infrastructure growth
India is experiencing significant shifts in its energy and digital infrastructure sectors. The nation’s data centre power capacity has risen to 1.57 GW and is projected to reach nearly 8 GW by 2030, supported by approximately $70 billion in ongoing investments and an additional $90 billion in announced projects.
Simultaneously, several southern states are grappling with electricity shortages. In Kerala, the state government has authorized the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to purchase power at rates up to Rs 30 per unit to mitigate a severe crisis and avoid load-shedding. In Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) is procuring an additional 2,000 MW of electricity to address increased demand caused by prolonged heat and reduced wind power generation.
In the infrastructure sector, KEC International has secured new orders worth Rs 1,303 crore. These projects span transmission and distribution across India, the Middle East, and the Americas, including 400 kV transmission lines in Northern India and 380 kV lines in Saudi Arabia.
