Tamil Nadu reports high vacancy rates in engineering and arts colleges
Significant vacancies have been reported in higher education institutions across Tamil Nadu. Following the third round of engineering counselling, 37,943 engineering seats remain unfilled. Out of the 253,806 seats approved by Anna University this year, 195,513 were designated for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) process. While 157,570 seats have been filled so far, the high number of vacancies is notable, with 24 colleges reporting zero admissions and 64 colleges admitting fewer than 10 students.
In the Coimbatore district, undergraduate admissions in six government arts and science colleges have also seen vacancies. As of August 17, 983 seats remain unfilled out of a total of 4,382 available seats. Valparai recorded the highest number of vacancies with 304 unfilled seats. In the government-aided college category within the region, 2,611 seats remain vacant out of 12,926 available.
