Tamil Nadu seeks six months to decide on bike-taxi regulations

The Tamil Nadu government has requested a six-month extension from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court to reach a policy decision regarding the regulation of bike-taxi services.

Transport Commissioner Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan informed the court that a seven-member expert committee has been established to study the issue. The committee includes a data analyst from IIT Madras/Anna University and is tasked with examining vehicle categories, fare structures, dynamic pricing, and aggregator-driver agreements. The goal is to recommend a transparent fare regime for the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Aggregator Rules, 2025.

The legal proceedings follow a petition by Naveen Kumar, who argued that while platforms like Rapido, Ola, and Uber are increasing in the state, there is currently no regulatory framework to govern these services.
