Tamil Nadu Special TET results show low pass rate for graduate teachers

The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) has released the results for the Special Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET), which was conducted in July for in-service teachers. Out of more than 2.20 lakh candidates who appeared for the exam, 1.08 lakh passed, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 49.34%.

There was a significant disparity in success rates between the two exam categories. Candidates for the Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) exam (Paper I) saw a pass rate of approximately 80%, with 47,628 out of 59,535 qualifying. In contrast, the Graduate Teacher exam (Paper II) saw a much lower pass rate of roughly 38%, as only 61,153 out of 1.60 lakh candidates successfully cleared the test.

The special examination was held following a Supreme Court ruling regarding eligibility requirements for teachers appointed prior to the introduction of the qualifying test. Following these results, reports suggest that teachers who did not qualify may be given another opportunity to sit for the exam in December, with an official announcement expected next week.
